Update on Our House

Jim & I met with our grading contractor today to show him where we want the house placed on the property and he marked it on the dirt. He will have plans drawn up showing where the house will be and where all the utility lines will be, then he will submit it to the city. Once that is done and the delivery/set-up contractor applies for the traffic permits everything will be a "go". So things are moving along. It has been an interesting experience buying property and having a house placed on it. We couldn't have asked for nicer people in City Hall. They have been very helpful. We also have a great grading contractor who is nice, and honest. God has blessed us in so many ways with our whole adventure. We need to be out of the cabin by May 21st as all the cabins are booked for Memorial weekend and every weekend in June. Summer is their busy season and the cabins are booked a year in advance. We will stay at a hotel until the house is ready to move into. Hopefully we won't have to be in the hotel too long. We will be staying in Rancho Cordova once we leave the cabin. Rancho Cordova is west of Placerville off the 50 freeway.

Paid In Full

Today we signed all the papers for the house we are having built. We also paid the balance so it is now Paid In Full. Our property is also Paid In Full. Now we only have city fees, and contractor fees to pay and everything will be done. We are meeting with our grading contractor and our delivery/set up contractor on Monday to decide where on the property we will be placing our house. We need to submit that along with drawings showing where the utilities will be coming in from and where the lines will run going to the house. Once that is done we will be able to place the house on our property when it is finished and delivered. It should take about 4 weeks to build and a week or so to set it up, install the carpet, hook up all the utilities, put the skirting around it and paint the skirting, and have a final walk through and inspection from the city. It will be so nice to be in our own place.

God has seen us through this move and I can see his hand in every step along the way. We have received Acts of Kindness from so many people. I am humbled by their generosity.

New House

We finally purchased our new house. It will take about 3 1/2 weeks to build it and a week or so to set it up. I am hoping it will be done sooner as our time at the cabin is running out. We have to be out of the cabin by May 21st as the cabins are all booked for the summer, plus summer rates begin Memorial Day Weekend. We have been so blessed to be able to stay here. We have not found any other place at this price and the owners let us move from a one room cabin to a two bedroom cabin at the same rate as the one room. Praise God.

Our house is a 4 bedroom, and is 27 x 56 it has 1496 sq ft. They will deliver it in two parts and then put it together on the lot. The outside color is Kansas Corn (a pale yellow), and the trim is Khaki Green. I chose a dark counter top, and a slate, gray, tan floor with just a hint of blue tone. The carpet is a medium brown color. Because we are on a budget and don't want a house payment, we purchased from the Price Fighter series we had added a few things that weren't included. We went back to the dealer a few times eliminating items and adding other items. It was hard to choose what to keep and what to remove. The price fighter home comes with MDF cabinets which are really 'plastic' cabinets. This was hard for us to have since Jim is a cabinet maker but we could not afford to upgrade to hardwood. So when we were trying to decide the color scheme and had the MDF cabinet next to the floor and counter top sample the owner of the place we are buying our home from removed the MDF cabinet and put the hardwood cabinet in its place. She said isn't that so much better, I said yes but we really can't afford to spend the extra money. Then she said, I am paying for the upgrade so don't you worry about it. How can we be so blessed to meet such awesome and giving. Praise God for all he does. He has watched over us during this whole process of selling our home, finding a place to rent, finding the right contractor, and finding the right person to buy our house from. We originally were going to buy from a guy in Salida but decided to look for a place closer to Placerville.

Our kitchen will be completely different from the floor plan as this one does not have much going for it. I will have a walk-in pantry and a bar area to sit at. Plus we are putting a door going from the service porch to the master bathroom.

Canoe Ride

The managers at Rollins Lake Cabins have a canoe and they let the people staying here use it. Rick uses it a lot when he goes fishing. Jim and I decided to take it out one afternoon while the lake was nice and calm. It was very peaceful, and I enjoyed it very much.

Grading Day 2

Grading Day 1

The grading started on our property on Monday, April 20th. Here are pictures from the first day of grading. It was interesting how they did it because they had to dig down and scoop out all the dirt and then replace the dirt and pack it down. They also had to remove any tree roots from the dirt that were left after removing the three pine trees.

Jim & I took a walk out the road that leads to the cabins we
are staying out. This is a large pond on someone's
property.

won't be keeping them as this will be

I don't know what this tree is but I see them a lot and want
one. All the trees are green now and then you see this tree
and it looks like it is covered in snow but it is the
blossoms. This one is in our neighbors yard.

My neighbor's fig tree that hangs over into our yard. He
said to help myself. You don't have to tell me twice.

Bear River Hike

Jim, Kim and I took a hike along the Bear River on April 6th.
